Earn College Credit While in High School

The Dual Enrollment Program provides free college-level courses in both transfer and career pathways. With more than 30 high schools in the San Joaquin Region participating, the program allows high school students to get a jumpstart on their college education by taking college courses while still enrolled in high school.

Dual enrollment is a form of College Early Start. At PLA, students have the option to take Delta College courses for college credit as well as high school elective credit. These courses do not replace core high school classes, but they can be added to a student's high school transcript while also allowing students to complete college coursework early.

Program Eligibility

To enroll in the Delta College Dual Enrollment Program, students must:

  1. Be age 13 or older.
  2. Be enrolled in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and attend a high school participating in the Dual Enrollment Program with San Joaquin Delta College.
  3. Complete a College Early Start form with their high school counselor and obtain all required signatures.

About the Courses

Courses offered through the Dual Enrollment Program are geared toward college and career readiness. Course offerings vary by semester, but generally fall into one or more of the following areas:

  • Introduce students to the post-secondary educational system and provide guidance for success in college.
  • Fulfill general education requirements for an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree.
  • Transfer to a California State University or University of California four-year institution.
  • Form part of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum Certificate (IGETC).
  • Include fields such as Business, Psychology, Pre-Health, and Administration of Justice.
  • Connect to major labor industries within students' local communities.
